It is with an overwhelming sense of pride that we present here some of the great things our students are involved in at Bishop Dunne. Take a few minutes to browse these great videos, slideshows, and literary anthologies, and we are sure you will be impressed with the many talented students at our school.
13th Annual Express Yourself! 2009 Poetry Competition On Monday, May 18, Bishop Dunne was honored by the Dallas Public Library with a first time ever award. The ceremony took place in the Bishop Dunne Library where the school was awarded a personalized trophy and banner by Mr. George Dealey for having the greatest number of submissions entered into the 13th Annual Express Yourself! 2009 Poetry Competition. Mrs. Toole’s 8th grade students, who submitted 321 of the over 2400 poems submitted, were each awarded a certificate of participation during Monday’s ceremony, presented by Mr. George Dealey, his niece Dealey, and Mr. Earnest Jammer. In addition, Mrs. Toole received a $200 check for purchase of books for the school library. Out of the 55 Bishop Dunne students who entered the contest, 3 students were finalists and became published poets; those students were 8th graders Will Smolka and Daniela Ramirez, and 7th grader Lee Shaw. Drumline Festival-2007
The full encore performance in the gym can be downloaded here in the podcast .m4v format (please be aware of bandwidth limitations when downloading longer videos). The Drumline recently performed live on the CBS Early Show. On Friday Aug. 3rd, the Bishop Dunne Drumline and Cheerleaders were invited to perform live at the Kelly Holcomb concert on CBS's Early Show. After the concert, "The Diesel" was asked to perform for the crowd as they exited Victory Plaza. "The Diesel" truly rocked Victory Plaza, with dazzling new cadences such as "Surprise," "Funk Train," "Gap," and "Head to Head," and we reminded them of how strong we were with solid cadences from last year like "Wheel Chair." They were so strong that 103.7 FM, which was airing live at the time, asked us to stop. We paused for a moment, and then started up again, marching and playing our theme cadence "Hard Time" as we passed them. All the while, America's #1 Hip Hop Radio Station 104.5 was on the air live. During their commercial break, they asked us to play when they came back on live. When they went live, "The Diesel" went live over the radio with our #1 cadence "Back It Up," and truly ROCKED DOWNTOWN DALLAS!
Mr. Beattie says, "I think I need a page just for the Drumline."
I thought you would like to see this picture of the BD Drumline as they just completed kicking off the American Heart Association Walk-a-Thon at Victory Plaza earlier today. They are accompanied by the Cedar Hill High School cheerleaders. They were so thrilled to dance to the music of Dunne's drumline, they walked through the drumline several times after the parade was over. They asked to take a picture with our kids. I am sending this from Mr. Robertson's email in the band hall as we are looking at the pictures. Photo and comments submitted by--David Small TAPPS Art Competition Champs - March 2007
