Latest Construction Update
The track is on schedule with the surface of the track laid and the lanes and numbers painted. The field is now graded and the irrigation and drainage systems are complete. Tiff grass has been planted and the goal posts installed. A new fence and retaining wall have been built to separate the alley and the field, and the space underneath the stadium has been cleared and the old concession stand and bathrooms have been demolished. New lights and poles will replace the originals and the track will be finalized in the next two weeks. A new fire hydrant was installed and the concrete for the first stage of the cafeteria upgrade was poured.

The field house now has a roof and the block and the brickwork have been completed. The internal benches have been poured and waterproofing process has been ongoing. Work has begun on the interior walls, floors, and plumbing.

The gymnasium renovation, athletic field house, and new track and field will be known as the Orender Family Athletic Complex and we will celebrate its blessing and opening at the beginning of the football season.

Funding is still needed for the football field light installations and naming opportunities exist for the funding of equipment for the weight room and the wrestling room. Please contact me if you would like to help with any of these opportunities.

Construction Update - January 2008
Thank you to all our parents and students for their patience during construction, especially during the gas leak and the water leaks. It has been a very difficult first month of construction as we discover that there are many unmarked water and gas lines. Progress has been halted whenever one has been discovered and we are carefully mapping all lines for future construction. Water quality is periodically tested by Terracon Engineering and deemed completely safe.

The new bus area is located next to St. Mary's Hall in front of the football stadium.

During the first six weeks of construction, we have poured a new parking lot and fire lane in the rear of the school; installed curbs and gutters from the rear entrance of the school past the cafeteria; installed new storm water piping for field house area; roughed-in plumbing and electrical utilities to the slab of the field house; completed piers and grading for the new field house; and begun preliminary formwork for the sidewalk and pavilion area adjacent to gym.

In February, we plan to finish the concrete work at the pavilion; begin installing the fire sprinkler line and new fire hydrant; install grade beams for the field house; work the underground plumbing and electrical rough-in for the field house; begin the track and field renovation; and install piers and slab for the cafeteria patio.

The new pavilion by the gym will have ADA access to the rear of the school and to the gym. It will also feature an attractive seating area and outdoor meeting area for students and parents. Although the cafeteria is actually Phase IV of our master architectural plan, we are pouring concrete for the patio for the senior students now as we are currently doing so much concrete work for the field house.

Construction Update – February 2008
February has been a smoother month for construction. During the last two weeks, the storm water piping for the field house and football field has been completed and we have passed our inspections for both. The gym plaza sidewalk area has been paved, enhancing the gym lobby entrance to the school. The field house is starting to take shape, with forming and placing grade beams. You can now see the outline of the field house.

Activity has also taken place on the football field with miscellaneous demolition around the new track area.

Looking ahead, we will start on the under slab utilities for the field house and should be completed with the grade beams by March 1. The field house slab should be poured by March 20 and then masonry work can begin.

Miscellaneous paving will continue throughout, with asphalt will being poured in the new parking lot area. The dog paw prints in the pavement will be sandblasted and grinded to perfection and then landscaping in this area can begin.

Construction Update March -

The month of March saw a lot of activity on the construction site. The storm water piping for the field house and football field was finished and we passed our inspections for both. The gym plaza sidewalk area was paved and the crew started forming and placing grade beams for the field house.

The football field and track has been completely demolished and the whole area regraded. It was found that the football field actually went uphill on the southern end. The demolition was made more difficult by the discovery of bedrock only 8 inches below the surface.

In the month of April, the under slab utilities for the field house will be placed in position and the grade beams will be completed soon. The field house slab will be poured after that and then the masonry block work will begin. The track area is being graded and drainage installed. The new track should be installed by the end of April.

The field house is taking shape and the track is nearing its final stages.

In the last two weeks, we have poured the main concrete slab for the Field House and begun the masonry block work and the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing wall rough-ins. In the next few weeks the masonry block walls will be complete and the steel contractor will begin work on the roof supports and then the roofer will start work.We have also been working with the city for approval of a new fire hydrant and sprinkler line for safety purposes. Paving will be installed, sandblasted, and grinded to perfection and the landscaping completed.

We have completed substantial work on the track and field area, including installation of a new irrigation system and a segmented retaining wall. Asphalt has been laid on the track and concrete poured for the high jump pit. The next phase is for the sod to be delivered and placed on the field.
