will also send out an email through the Edline system to alert parents
as well. Any student not returning his or her iPod will be subject
to a charge of $310 to cover the replacement cost of the iPod and
the Apple Care warranty.
Immunizations
It is the policy of the school,
the Diocese, and the state that all immunizations are current in
order for a student to be admitted to school or to remain in school.
Please be sure your child’s immunizations are current prior
to starting the next school year. The summer break is a great time
to update these immunizations. The following are the ones most often
delinquent: Hepatitis B and Varicella (chickenpox), which are to
be completed by age 12, and Tetanus/Diphtheria, which is a booster
shot due ten years after the one received at age 4-5 years of age.
If your child had chickenpox, a statement of illness from the parent
is required in place of the Varicella vaccine.
Athletic Physicals
The athletic physicals are set for Saturday June 2, 2007, from 9:00
a.m. until 1:00 p.m. All student athletes must have a physical examination
before they can participate in fall and spring semester athletics.
There will be three doctors administering the physicals at Bishop
Dunne for $25 per student. The physical will also include an EKG
reading. The physicals are under the supervision of Dr. Robert Simonson,
President of the Bishop Dunne Catholic School Advisory Council. Attached
is the form that our doctors will be using.

see a volcano, go horseback riding, and be immersed in the culture
and wildlife of this amazing country. This is a wonderful opportunity
for students to practice their Spanishlanguage skills and knowledge
of geography. Students who attend the trip will earn credit from
our field trip curriculum. Please contact Ms. Marcela Garcini (mgarcini@bdhs.org),

the school cafeteria. Thank you to the parents and Bishop Dunne supporters
who hosted booths and provided materials for the Fair. Many thanks
to Ms. Jennifer Kupper, Cooper Institute Research Associate, for
providing guidance, educational material, and fun giveaways that
helped highlight the many benefits of physical exercise and proper

by two of our finest, Dallas Police Officers Fairley and Cruz. Officer
Fairley, father of eighth grade student Dominic, used especially
made goggles to demonstrate the perils of driving drunk and Officer
Cruz discussed the perils of drug use. We also extend special thanks
to Ms. Jill Sellers, mother of seventh grade student, Alexandra.
Ms. Sellers, of GlaxoSmithKline, donated brochures, fun giveaways,
and more for the Fair. Thank you to our school nurse, Ms. Janice

New Camps
Please check the links in the center of our home
page for the exciting
summer camps, summer enrichment courses, and online courses presently
being offered at Bishop Dunne.
Following are three new additions:
Speed Typing and Keyboarding – Mr.
Brad Baker
Many students think they know how to type from spending
years on a keyboard; however, often they are only marginally functional
and will be handicapped as they progress into high school, college
and later life with the low level skill they now possess. This one
week camp allows students to enter at any level, set their own goals
and work to improve their speed and accuracy in a fun and easy to
learn manner. By spending a little time this summer, students may
save immeasurable time later when they reap the rewards during the
numerous essays and research papers that will be required. Classes
will be July 9 through 13 from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and July 16
through 20 from 8:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m.
GeoTech GIS/GPS Technology
Camp – Mr. Brad Baker
One of the fastest and most promising
career choices of the future is GIS/GPS spatial technology. Not only
are these mapping tools fun to learn and play with, they are also
extremely valuable in solving the major problems of today. At this
camp students will obtain an introduction to these exciting tools
through a mixture of computer lab and field experience training.
The students will be exposed to numerous software packages and get
hands-on training and experience with GPS units. Brief off campus
field trips will be held to learn the scavenger hunting GPS sport
of GeoCaching, and the basics of Search and Rescue will be a part
of this workshop. This camp will be from June 11 through 15 from
8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Bishop Dunne Drumline Summer Camp 2007 – Mr.
Glenn Robertson
Each student must have a physical before enrolling
in Marching Band. This camp will include conditioning drills, playing
exercises, marching drills, introduction of old cadences and drills
to new members, and introduction of new cadences and new drills to
all members of the Drumline. All members of the Snare line are required
to purchase their own specified sticks (Vic Firth Corp Master SRH
wood tip, SLB, SCM, & SSJ), and Snare Sling (strap). All bass
and tenor players are required to purchase their own bass and tenor
Sling(strap). All equipment can be purchased at Lone Star Percussion.
Please see Mr. Glenn Robertson for information on Lone Star. All
new members are required to purchase a Drumline Wind-Suit, at least
two weeks prior to the first football game. The price of the Wind-Suit
is $77.50, which covers the suit, and all embroidery. We will have
special guests from the Universities of Arkansas Pine Bluff and Grambling
State, coming to assist Mr. Robertson in introducing the Drumline
to College level playing and performances. This session will be July
30 through August 3 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is for new and
returning drumline members. The fee is $25.00 per student, and this
will pay for camp, t-shirt, water, snacks, instructors, and facility
use.

of thunderstorms and tornado sirens. Many thanks go to Mrs. Katy
Bove, the prom organizer, and to the decorating committee: Mrs. Debbie

National Junior Art Honor Society News
The NJAHS
recently visited the Nasher workshop in April to view the exhibit “Matisse
as Sculptor” and participated in a sculpture making class where
students made plaster casts of their arm and clay sculptures on wire
armatures. The Nasher Sculpture Center would like to continue working
with Bishop Dunne students in the future as a supplement to the established
program of the art department, which currently does not offer sculpture
classes.
Mr. and Miss Bishop Dunne Contest
The African American Awareness
Club would like to congratulate the winners and participants of the
Mr. and Miss Bishop Dunne Contest that took place on Tuesday, May
1, 2007. Jon Marcus Morrison was named Mr. Bishop Dunne after a surprising
and utterly creative interpretive dance that dazzled the audience.
Miss Bishop Dunne is Shenequia Walton, who impressed the judges with
her more formal dancing skills in a number to “All That Jazz.” Other
participants were Leslie Allen, La Shondra Ellis, Darrell Glasco,
Carol Herera, Gabrian King, Tonne King, Judson Meshack, Destiny Peters,
Samantha Stevens, and Roddrick West. We express our sincere gratitude
to the students, faculty, families, friends, and businesses that
supported our pageant. The African American Awareness Club raised
funds to support the students who will be traveling to Ghana this
summer.

Dunne student art auction to be held on Friday, May 11, in Room 402.
The TAAPS 6A State Champion art students will sell their work in
a silent auction that will benefit the National Art Honor Society.
Bidding will begin at noon and will finish half an hour after the
faculty/student softball game, approximately between 6:00 p.m. or
7:00 p.m. Do not miss out on the opportunity to purchase incredible
student art at an excellent price! The Bishop Dunne art teachers
will also donate pieces to the auction, so keep an eye out for their
work as well.
Faculty vs. Girls Varsity Softball Game – May
11
Come out to the softball diamond to watch the faculty and staff
of Bishop Dunne take on the varsity softball team on May 11 at 4
p.m. The ladies will be celebrating senior night and currently 28
faculty/ staff members have signed up to play. A five dollar donation
is requested to help raise funds for new equipment for the softball
team. Also, do not forget to stop by the student art auction before
the game in room 402. The bidding will conclude half an hour after
the game is over so both events can be enjoyed equally.
Penny War
Success
The National Honor Society raised over $180 for the Leukemia/
Lymphoma society during the month of March through a school wide
penny drive. The winning classroom was Mike Kistner’s AP European
History class which raised over $30 during the drive. Only four students
are enrolled in the AP class, proving that despite the odds, greatness
can be achieved one penny at a time.

Textbooks
Bishop Dunne has contracted with MBS
Direct, a wholly
owned subsidiary of MBS Textbook Exchange, Inc., one of the largest
distributors of used and new books in the nation. With over 5 million
books in their Columbia, Missouri facility, they created the MBS
Direct program to help us provide our school community with improved
bookstore services.
In effect, we are removing the middleman from
our textbook services and enabling you to get your books direct from
the vendor holding the inventory. This means you will have more control
over your textbook order, more options on the delivery of your books/
course materials, and assurance that your books will be available
when you need them. This will ultimately result in cost savings,
convenience, reliability and better services for you. Here’s
how it works:
MBS
Direct will maintain a current list of our courses and the books/materials
for those courses;
You
may pay by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express;
Personal
checks or money orders accepted with mail orders;
Orders will
be shipped from Columbia, Missouri, within 24 hours.
MBS operators
are available to take your call as follows:
Monday-Thursday, 7:00
a.m. to 10:00 p.m. CDT/CST
Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CDT/CST
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CDT/CST
Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00
p.m. CDT/CST
We recommend that you order via the Virtual
Bookstore due to its convenience and cost savings. The Virtual
Bookstore can
be accessed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The operators/Virtual
Bookstore
will inform you of the availability of used books and optional
materials, and will allow you to determine the best method for shipping.
Here are other benefits MBS Direct provides:
USED BOOKS: While you
may purchase new books, the MBS textbook buyers make every effort
to maximize the number of used books available, providing you with
a 25% savings.
DELIVERY: Textbooks are delivered via UPS by one of
three methods: Ground, Second Day Air, or Next Day Air. You pay the
current UPS rate based on weight of the package and where the package
is being shipped. (FedEx and Priority Mail are also available).
TEXTBOOK
BUYBACK: An online Web site is provided for students wishing to sell
their books back upon completion of a course (www.mbsdirect.net).
In addition, two weeks prior to the end of class, you will receive
a letter or email (if your books have a resale value) listing the
price MBS Direct will pay for your textbooks. A prepaid shipping
label will be included for your convenience in sending the books
back for resale. You may also sell books back to MBS by calling the
toll-free number to determine the current value of the book. MBS
will send a check directly to you for the value of any books they
purchase from you in buyback.

Hispanic
Institute
The National Hispanic Institute is an organization that
values the talent of Latino youth, the potential they represent to
the future of the Latino community and the extended sectors of American
society, and provides private community settings through which young
people may become intellectually, culturally, and socially engaged
in determining the roles they wish to play in shaping tomorrow’s
world.
High school youth who participate in NHI programs are intellectually
challenged to alter old, strident views that have historically framed
their understanding of Latinos in the past, present, and future.
Ultimately, students not only sense a deep appreciation and value
for the roles they are being asked to play in the future of the Latino
community; they also realize the importance of making excellence
at the highest levels possible a crucial element in their personal
and professional development. These were the principal beliefs that
guided the thinking and vision of the founders over two decades ago
and continue to influence the work of the Institute today.
Bishop
Dunne Catholic School proudly sends participants to NHI’s various
summer leadership programs. This year the freshman students will
join other students from Jesuit, Ursuline, and Lynch to create a
Dallas team. They will travel to College Station to compete at Texas
A & M. The sophomores will travel to Benedictine College in Chicago
for one week.

to join the women’s volleyball team at the University of Arkansas
in Pine Bluff next fall. Jasmine will sign a letter of intent at
a ceremony in the auditorium on Thursday, May 3, at 1:00 p.m. She
has also been awarded an academic scholarship for her accomplishments
in the classroom. Congratulations, Jasmine!
Baseball
The baseball
team finished its season with an 8-20 record, after competing in
a tough district that currently contains 3 out of the final 8 teams
in the state. The Falcons’ top offensive player this season
was senior Matthew Saldana. He batted .554 with 35 runs scored and
29 RBIs. His 51 hits included 10 doubles, 2 triples, and a homerun.
Matthew also stole 19 bases, pitched in some big games, and played
an outstanding center field. Other key offensive players included
senior Brady Dewan (.366, 8 runs, 9 RBIs, and 4 steals in just 12
games), senior Marcus Campos (.329, 20 runs, 26 RBIs, 12 walks),
senior David Moreno (.310, 8 walks), and senior Matt Szurek (.305,
29 runs, 10 walks, 11 steals). Other contributors included senior
Roddrick West with his speed on the bases, and senior Alex Luckey,
juniors John Whiteaker-Chudecke and Philip McElroy, and sophomore
Evan Kuterbach, who each drove in key runs for the Falcons during
the season. The pitching efforts were led by senior Jimmy Gaffney,
who pitched in almost half of the Falcons’ games and earned
2 wins in district. Jimmy went 4-5 with 27 strikeouts and a 5.62
ERA. Junior Caleb Scheerer also pitched well, going 1-3 with 20 strikeouts
and a 6.46 ERA. Other pitching contributors included junior Roger
Ibarra and junior Brett Kuterbach. The pitching staff was aided by
the defense of senior Manny Guerra, junior Rey Lopez, and freshman
Grant Szurek. 13 On April 5, the Falcons hosted the Academy of the
Holy Angels, a Catholic high school from Minnesota. The day’s
events consisted of a Holy Thursday Mass for the two teams celebrated
by Father Tim Gollob, a 7-inning scrimmage, and a barbeque afterwards
for both teams and their parents. The trip to Bishop Dunne was part
of a spring break excursion for AHA in preparation for their upcoming
season. Everyone that was part of the experience had a great time
and hopes that this will start a long friendship between the two
schools. Anyone who is interested in playing baseball for Bishop
Dunne in the spring of 2008 should contact Coach McManus (tmcmanus@
bdhs.org) to discuss off-season plans.
Golf
Congratulations to sophomores
Sean Luke, Brian Luke and Valeria De Fex for earning all-district
honors by placing in the top ten at this year’s district tournament.
All three golfers went on to play at the state tournament in San
Antonio. The golf program would like to thank Oak Cliff Country Club
and Twin Wells Golf Course (Irving) for allowing us to practice at
their facilities free of charge. The golf team can always use donations
of new or used, unwanted golf equipment. If you have any items you
would like to donate, please bring them to the front office or to
Coach Perez in room 111.
Rugby
The boys marched out onto the field
determined to win. The opposing team was Kingwood High School from
the Houston area, and, from the rather imposing posture of the boys
out on the pitch, we could tell it was going to be a hard match.
At the half, the boys were tied at 10 all. Into the second half,
junior Mike Dean broke away and ran about 50 meters for a try that
could only be described as exceptional. However, Bishop Dunne lost
in double sudden-death overtime, after having three more tries called
invalid by the referee. On day two, Bishop Dunne played against Nolan
High School. Early in the match, the boys quickly brought the score
to 32, with tries scored by junior Mike Dean, and seniors Alex Luckey
and Paul Chartier. Sophomore Drew Kappes kicked two conversions,
and Thomas Moser kicked his first ever drop goal in regular play,
scoring three points. Bishop Dunne took Division II Third place in
the boys’ first Texas Rugby Union/Texas Youth Rugby State Rugby
competition ever.
Track
The High School Track team completed a successful
season by doing very well at the District Meet held at Bishop Lynch
High School. The boys’ team finished third overall, just missing
second place by seven points. The girls’ team finished fourth
overall. The following students contributed to the team’s success.

From the Business Office
Payment Due
As we approach the end of the school
year, it is imperative that all balances are paid in full. The Business
Office will be pursuing all accounts very aggressively in order to
have all balances paid in full well before the final day of school.
Students who have a balance on their account are being pulled from
class daily. Please save your student the stress of being pulled
from class by bringing your account up-to-date if you have not already
done so, especially as we approach critical final review periods.
If you are unsure, please contact the Business Office. Final grades
and transcripts will not be released for those students who have
a balance.
Where Did My Diploma Go?
Any senior who has a balance on
his or her account at Bishop Dunne may be asking this question. Diplomas
and final transcripts will not be released until all accounts are
paid in full.
For Families Who Have Not Yet Registered
1. Registration
for 2007-08 All registrations will be accepted on a space available
basis. The registration fee is used to secure enrollment and guarantee
a position in the school upon acceptance. This fee is a financial
commitment by the parents, and enables the school to gauge staffing
needs and budget costs. Returning students may not register until
accounts at the school and TCCCU are current. Schedules will not
be generated for any student who has not paid his or her registration
fee. Enrollment and class schedules cannot be guaranteed if registration
fees are not paid by the deadline. Registration is nonrefundable
and non-transferable.
The registration fee for the 2007-08 school
year is $500. If you will be using the Texas Catholic Community Credit
Union for the first time this year, please contact Mrs. Sandy Brooks
at 214.339.6561, extension 233, so that she can send an enrollment
card to you.
In the registration packet that was mailed to all
current students, you will find a Contract of Enrollment and a Contract
for Financing at the Texas Catholic Community Credit Union. All returning
families must complete and sign the Contract of Enrollment. Only
those families financing their tuition through TCCCU must complete
the Contract for Financing. All documents and payment in full must
be submitted to the Business Office for a student to be considered
registered.
2. Financing Tuition for 2007-2008 Through TCCCU?
This is a reminder to all families who are financing tuition through
the Texas Catholic Community Credit Union. Some families choose to
pay a portion of the tuition and fees directly to Bishop Dunne so
that they are financing less at TCCCU. Any portion of the tuition
10 and fees that are paid to BDCS, rather than to the TCCCU, must
be paid by May 1 in order to have the correct loan amount processed
in a timely manner and accurate loan payments calculated. Loan applications
sent to the TCCCU will reflect the total amount of the tuition, student
activity fee, technology fee, and facility fee less any amount paid
in advance.
3. Do You Want to Save Some Money? The tuition loan
rate for parent loans for the 2007-2008 school year is 8.25%. An
automatic draft from your checking account at another bank to TCCCU
will result in a rate of 8.00%. An automatic draft from a checking
account at TCCCU will result in a rate of 7.75%. However, by using
either automatic draft option, your biggest savings will be in time
and hassle. You won’t have to remember to write a check, address an envelope,
or find a stamp, and you won’t accidentally incur any late
fees because you forgot to make your payment.
4. Tuition and Fees

To Apply for Financial Aid
Priority consideration will be given to those families who submit
their financial aid applications by January 31, 2007. Families
who have completed all financial aid paperwork by the January 31,
2007, priority deadline will have a response before March 1, 2007.
Those who apply after this deadline will be awarded aid on a funds-available
basis. Notification of awards will take place 4-6 weeks
after your file is completed at PSAS.
You can apply for financial aid online by going to mypsas.org and
choosing the online application. The authorization code is 1562.
You still have to print the certification and mail your attachments
to PSAS. This method requires that you pay the fee using a credit
card. You can also access this link on the school’s website
at bdhs.org. If you would like to print out the application and mail
it directly to PSAS, you can access the form on the school’s
website also. Simply choose the drop down box for Admission, then
Financial Aid. You can either print out the application, which is
available in Spanish or English, or go to the Private School Aid
link provided and complete the application online.
Student requirements for financial aid include but are not limited
to maintaining an overall grade point average of 80% and a good discipline
record. The tuition assistance committee evaluates each student at
the end of each semester to determine whether financial aid will
continue for the next semester or the next school year. Please remind
your student how important it is to maintain the required grades
and a good discipline record so that tuition assistance will not
be withdrawn after the first semester. For returning students requesting
financial aid, the committee will review the prior year’s grades
and discipline record.
Payment Methods
Bishop Dunne Catholic School accepts cash, cashier’s checks,
money orders, MasterCard or VISA for any payments.
