about the GeoTech Conference
The mission of GeoTech is to provide a forum to inspire and motivate
educators in grades K-12 to teach about the Earth - its structure, societies,
environments and their interplay - using a wide range of technologies.
GeoTech brings together innovative presenters and teachers in all disciplines
to share the latest in academic and technological innovations.
This year’s keynote speaker is David Rumsey,
historian and geographer. Mr. Rumsey began building a collection of
North and South American historical maps and related cartographic materials
in 1980. His collection, with more than 150,000 maps, is one of the
largest private map collections in the United States with over 10,000
high-resolution images of maps from his collection online. Rumsey was
given an Honors Award from the Special Libraries Association for making
his private map collection available to the public via the Internet,
and won a Webby Award for Technical Achievement.
This year, Bishop Dunne Catholic High School will
also host a speaker series during GeoTech week, including:
- Sr. Helen Prejean, award-winning author and activist
- Spencer Wells, Ph.D., geneticist, anthropologist,
and National Geographic Explorer-in Residence
- Louis Mangione, Educator and Lecturer.
For an early bird presenter registration by January 24, 2007, presenters
will receive a speaker event of their choice for free.
The final date for presenter registration is February
2, 2007, so don’t
delay! As always, there is no registration fee to the main conference
for presenters.
This year, we will be hosting exciting geospatial and technology trainings
the two days prior to the main conference. Interested presenters will
receive a 50% discount on training costs. Enrollment for these exciting
new offerings is limited, so turn in your registration soon!
