Workshop Leaders at the 2007 GeoTech Conference Brad Baker is one of the most experienced teachers of GIS in the country. He offers three years of GIS experience for students at Bishop Dunne Catholic school. His students have been honored in local news, newspaper, national magazines and at the ESRI international GIS users conference. Dr. Bob Coulter is director of the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center in St. Louis. Previously an award-winning elementary school teacher, Bob now leads a fully geospatial ecology center serving students from pre-school to graduate school in education and research programs. His work was recognized recently by ESRI, which awarded him its Special Achievement in Geography award. Barbaree Ash Duke is an educational consultant for curriculum integration and GIS in education in Alexandria, VA. She is a 15 year veteran of English Language Arts in grades 6-12 from Texas to North Carolina. Barbaree uses technology and GIS to make English a hands-on realistic experience offering a fresh practical classroom environment. Dr. Joseph Kerski serves in the Education Program of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), where he writes curriculum, teaches courses in geography and geotechnologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GPS, and fosters educational partnerships. Prior to joining ESRI, he served for 21 years as Geographer at the USGS and at the US Census Bureau. Lyn Malone, an award-winning teacher and author, is an educational consultant specializing in the classroom application of spatial technologies such as GIS, GPS, and Remote Sensing. Lyn is the Coordinator of the Rhode Island Geography Education Alliance and has served on the executive board of the National Council for Geographic Education. Shauna Maggs is the Director of Marketing for Groundspeak, Inc. in Seattle, Washington. Groundspeak owns and operates Geocaching.com, the global headquarters for the sport of geocaching. Geocaching was the first activity to combine Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and the Internet for real-world treasure hunting. Groundspeak continues to create new tools for participants to create and share GPS enabled adventures in the real world for both entertainment and education. Roger Moore is a world renowned photographer. Roger has been a photographer and artist his entire life but has made it his vocation for the past 10 years. Roger has studied in several dark rooms across the country and currently runs a total digital shop. His current focus is a combination of personal portraiture and physical landscape as he leads adventure photographic safaris across the globe. Roger Palmer has taught chemistry, physics, and environmental/field science for 15 years. He has been involved with several initiatives to use NASA generated imagery to teach math, science, and geography to K-12 students. He holds an M.S. in Chemistry and conducts research with students in the use of GIS to visualize field-collected data. |
